"Cool Water, Hot Island" Happening art project in Time Square

Contemporary Artist: Molly Dilworth.

"NYC artist Molly Dilworth created a blue-themed pattern based on NASA infrared satellite data of Manhattan, suggested a river flowing through the center of Time Square, and providing a visual counterpoint to area's signature marquees and billboards. The design focuses on the urban heat-island effect, where cities tend to experience warmer temperatures than rural settings. The color palette of striking blue reflects more sunlight and absorbs less heat - improving the look of the pedestrian plazas while also making them more comfortable."   --- NYC DOT

Molly Dilworth
